They've Got the Horse Right There and It's Real
By ANITA GATES
The producers of "American
Dream Derby" have gathered
together an awfully good-natured
bunch of contestants. In the first episode, tonight at 9 (followed
by a second episode at 10) on
GSN, the only real grumbling to be heard is the comment "Some
people just can rub you the
wrong way," made by Tara Walden, a 32-year-old Los Angeles
massage therapist. She is talking about
Sara Slavin, a 24-year-old model from West Milford, N.J. Yes,
this reality show actually acknowledges
that people have last names, but maybe that's just because
there are two Taras in the show. (The other is a
ranch owner from Nevada.)
Scott Stone, Sharon Levy, Anthony Ross, Kathy Sutula are Executive
Producers. Tim Warren is the Director.

The Hollywood Reporter
By Barry Garron
"American Dream Derby" makes a horse
race out of the reality game show elimination genre in every sense of the term.
Set at the historic Santa Anita racetrack, "Derby" pits 12 contestants
-- some horse aficionados and some with absolutely no horse sense -- against
each other. After the usual eliminations, alliances, accusations and bizarre
challenges -- along with call-in votes that allow players to be reinstated
-- eight contestants will select a horse that runs during a live telecast Feb.
21. To the winner goes $250,000 and a stable of thoroughbreds.
The show, from Stone & Company Entertainment, is well cast.
The players are a diverse lot and provide the necessary ingredients
of snappy comments and superheated emotion. What's more, as in
the better reality shows, there's some worthwhile information
to be gleaned from viewing, some of which could come in handy
later at track windows.

Scorecard, Under Review
By S.P.
BEHIND THE WHEEL On May 14, FX debuts NASCAR Drivers: 360,
an hourlong weekly series that follows the personal and professional lives of
some of the sport's biggest names. While many program promise unfettered access
to athletes, this show actually delivers the goods. The premiere features genuinely
tender and awkward moments in the households of drivers Kevin Harvick, Kenny
Wallace and Rusty Wallace.

Daily Variety
Television Review, NASCAR Drivers: 360
By ANNE DONAHUE
There's a joke among the uninitiated about what NASCAR stands for: No Athletic
Skill, Centered Around Rednecks. FX's "NASCAR Drivers: 360" seeks
to remedy this stereotype and give a behind-the-scenes look at the drivers on
the mammoth-ticket Nextel and merely big-ticket Busch racing circuits. Bowing
on mucho macho FX right after this week's coverage of the Busch series race from
Richmond, Va., docu's focus on family life may convince the wives of NASCAR dads
to stay tuned after the race.
